Megan Daniels

Megan Daniels is a North Carolina photographer. She has allowed us a glimpse of her most recent project, "The Midwives of North Carolina," a story captured through the camera lens.

A story about midwifery is also about relationships and families. This story is about the relationships that form between a midwife and her clients, her sons, her music, and the unborn child. It is about the families' relationships and their vulnerability and the intense nine months of mental and physical preparation. These relationships - between husband and wife, mother and daughter, midwife and client - must endure relentless emotional periods.

She asks the viewer to keep in mind the typical hospital birth as you view her photographs. She said, "There must surely be a place for homebirths and midwifery within our contemporary health care system. Not many people agree."
