My Philosophy I believe that childbirth is a life altering experience for a woman. One that is normal and natural and not an illness that requires interventive active management. I trust women and their bodies to birth their babies. I see my role as a doula to be one of nurturing and gentle support. I do not influence the mother's choice, but rather, provide information about the risks, benefits and alternatives of any procedure which provides for true informed consent. On this road to motherhood, many women find themselves without a map and feeling somewhat disoriented. I see myself as a tour guide and the information I provide as a means to feel grounded in the experience. This serves to provide reassurance and peace of mind for both the birthing woman and her partner. In addition, I strive to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for birth, one that feels safe, supportive, non-judgmental and nurturing. I'm especially sensitive to incorporating any religious or cultural traditions you'd like to have observed at your birth.
Training, Education & Experience I'm a DONA (Doula's of North America) and HypnoBirthing trained antepartum, birth and postpartum doula and have been assisting women for the last four years. I help women define their birth experience for themselves and respect and support their choices. This aids them in achieving whatever kind of birth they desire. Empowerment, education, elimination of fear, and a peaceful birth experience are among my goals for my clients. I offer physical, emotional, informational, educational and breastfeeding support to my clients throughout the birth process and postpartum period. I received a bachelors of arts degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and am originally from Chicago, Illinois. I'm a new resident of Raleigh (October 2004) and am excited to be here! I bring a fresh perspective and new energy to the Triangle area birthing community. I look forward to serving the women here with my education, compassion, skills and experience.
